In case you haven’t heard, Pennsylvania is very close to becoming a compact state. The legislation has officially passed, all there is to do is to wait to hear the implementation date!
What does this mean?
Pennsylvania becoming a compact state means that it will join the 35+ states that are already part of the Enhanced Nursing Licensure Compact (eNLC).
This means Pennsylvania will adhere to the same licensure requirements as all of the other compact states while also offering a ‘compact license’, which grants the nurse the ability to practice in any of the compact states.
How does this affect you?
If you are in an eNLC state that isn’t Pennsylvania, you will immediately become eligible to nurse in the state of PA. No need to apply for a single state Pennsylvania license anymore!
On the other hand, if you live in Pennsylvania your options will broaden even more. You will be eligible to nurse in all the other compact states, which include states as close as New Jersey and Ohio (also recently eNLC) to states as far as Arizona and Florida.
If you don’t live in an eNLC state, this honestly won’t affect you. Sorry!

How does this affect ARMStaffing?
All our PA nurses will become eligible to nurse in facilities out of the state, expanding their options considerably.
Meanwhile, nurses who are in other compact states will become eligible to nurse here in Pennsylvania, which is where we do most of our business.
This affects ARMStaffing twofold. We will be able to offer more options to our PA based nurses and grant them flexibility even greater than before. For our nurses outside of PA, it allows us to welcome them into the Keystone State with open arms, allowing them to take advantage of the fact that we offer higher rates here than any other state in the country.
When will it happen?
While the ink has dried on the legislation and everything is set to go, there is still a waiting period until the implementation officially kicks in. A date has not been announced, but it’s reasonable to assume that by the start of 2023, PA will officially be compact!
